We have all witnessed the invaluable progress that is being made to build a new building Buffalo Mission in downtown Buffalo. Now, more than ever, the world needs to take care of the homeless as countless people become unemployed and struggle to fight the pandemic.
Now that their new building is complete, the City Mission is trying to collect about one-third of the organization’s annual budget. The building is one thing; doing it is different. With the state of the economy, even nonprofits struggle to make ends meet. The current purpose of fundraising is that $ 2.34 million, from October 1 to December 31, 2020. Achieving this goal means that the homeless in Buffalo will not only have a warm winter this year, but they will also have access to hot meals and other necessities.
It’s never a good time to be homeless, but winter can be very rough.
In 2019, The city office provided 120,462 meals and provided 66,242 safe nights with accommodation.
“Our annual fall campaign is an important time when we look back once again at the generosity of this particular community,” said Stuart Harper, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of the Buffalo Mission. “In this unprecedented and difficult year, we have been blessed with a steady flow of support from our neighbors. Now is the time to put forward our vision and our $ 2 million 344 thousand goal will allow us to continue services and programs that can help change the lives of our less fortunate people. “
“Homelessness has remained a serious and unwelcome tragedy in our area,” Harper continued. “This has had a greater impact on the COVID-19 pandemic. In a recent report, the Homeless Coalition in West New York pointed out that more than 5,200 people were left homeless last year. Through our fall campaign, we have the opportunity to raise significant funds to offer programs and services to everyone who comes to our door. ”
Buffalo is rightly called the city of good neighbors. Every year, people take steps to make this bold effort – in 2020, it is more important than ever for those who can contribute.
“Each of us has the power to change lives,” Harper said. “Today’s demand is extremely important. Each contribution makes a difference. Together, we can help put others on a path of hope and renewal. “
