There was a time when dinner clubs in Buffalo were furious. Once in a while you could dress up and go out to dinner and get some amazing live music – jazz and R&B, especially.
Thanks to the launch of Luxor Steak & Lobster, those “good days” are back. Operators Tara Funderburg and her fiancé Taru Woods took a complete list of their “date night” wishes and put them all together, thus building a restaurant with a dining experience and competing for the best.
For Tara, her perfect night means throwing away clothes, going out for dinner and vegetarian and vegetarian meals, and listening to wonderful music. For Taru? She also likes to sit, sit and listen to any classical jazz and R&B. But instead of the price of veggies and veggies, he prefers steak or lobster … or both.
“We created this dining experience based on our passion for food,” Tara told me. “When we go to other cities, these are the places we want to see. We learned that in this area of Buffalo there is no place to go out and experience the luxury of the city interior with live music … that the dining club feels like we love it so much. It’s our final date night and we think others feel the same way. Not only did we spend everything for dinner, but we also knew some of Buffalo’s best musicians would play during and after the meal. Since we opened on April 2, so many musicians have approached us. And diners love it. Last Saturday we had four different schedules moving from Rochester. They were so happy to have such a place in WNY – a place like the good old days. ”
I couldn’t agree more. Years ago, my dad would take me to Note Blue on Maine Street to listen to jazz every Friday. It was a lot of fun – we both have such good memories. After the closure of the Note Note Blue, I was always wondering why there weren’t so many places like this around the city, especially since it was a great jazz city. Hopefully this revival of the dining club will make it even warmer … after all, sometimes there’s nothing better than eating delicious food while some fans relax.
Speaking of fans, saxophonist Will Holton will play this Friday, so you can order later. Hmmm … what good is a sax? How about a tomahawk steak? “Or the salmon is really good,” Tara said. “So all the fried cats are cooked there. Don’t forget about the three layers of chocolate cake and the Strawberry Cheesecake – vegetarian versions are also available (you can’t tell the difference), all made by Nikki’s chocolate here in Buffalo. She is a wonderful chocolate! ”
Tara told me that people were talking about one of Taru’s creations – the Luxor Burger (main image) is their signature dish. Apparently, Taru wanted a big hamburger and lobster tail, and he wanted it all in one dish. Personally, I’ve never seen anything like this before, but I’m sure there are plenty of surfing and turf lovers out there who are now licking their lips.
When I asked Tara what one of her biggest dishes was after the opening, she told me she loves seeing young people’s clothes and going out on the town. She said that now that she and Taru have fewer butterflies in their bellies about opening a restaurant (it’s always a roller coaster), they’re 100% focused on “… doing what we do well. We ironed some kink early. Now we focus on speeding up orders, delivering superior food, and making sure everyone on the road is happy. “
