The Buffalo City Reconstruction Agency has found an empty odd-shaped site near the southeast corner of Maine and Best streets. Elllicott Development on Thursday called on the BURA board to appoint a developer for the 0.23-acre plot. BURA first searched the site developer at 1127 Main Street in 2014.
BURA did not release details on Ellicott’s plans, but the 2014 RFP was looking for development, not parking:
The agency is looking for a development plan to strengthen the traffic and transit nature of the surrounding area, taking into account the proximity of the site to Metro Rail and the medical town of Buffalo Niagara.
The northern part of the cluster of existing and proposed Ellicott Development projects is located around the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes. 1091 Main Street is six-story and covers 167,000 square feet. an office building located south of the church. The former church will be converted into a mix of retail, restaurant, commercial office and housing. Pre-Covid, Ellicott announced plans for the 103-room Element Hotel in an empty space at the corner of St. Paul and Elliott on the southeast of 1091 Main.
